    ISC2 RVA April 25, 2024 Monthly Chapter Meeting

    Speaker: Jason Spencer, Senior Security Consultant GuidePoint Security

    Topic: Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)

    Bio: Jason Spencer, Security Cybersecurity Consultant, began his career in the security industry in 2010. His professional experience includes security assessments, specializing in network, wireless, and vulnerability management. He has led and participated in compliance assessments throughout the world for industries such as banking, commercial, and federal agencies. Jason has experience conducting numerous NIST 800-171/CMMC assessment starting in 2017 through today. He is also experienced in conducting HIPAA and PCI assessments. Jason’s extensive experience in network security assessments includes perimeter, network, and wireless, database auditing, workstation review, social engineering, firewall auditing, assessments. He also has worked within Network Operations Center (NOC), and Security Operations Centers (SOC).

    Jason earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology with Teacher certification and holds several certifications to include the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

    2024 AI and Cyber Summit for Cities and Counties

    This Summit will explore the intersection of AI and cyber in local government. The Public Technology Institute - a division of Fusion Learning Partners is presenting the Summit to examine questions on how AI will impact government services and the ongoing need to focus on building a strong and resilient cyber infrastructure.

    During this Summit, we will bring together local government officials, the private sector, and academia to focus on AI and Cyber governance and policy issues. We will look at strategies and highlight success stories with the goal of providing attendees with the tools that will guide their organization in this fast-moving space!

    Local government officials will share their perspectives on the policy approaches, data management and preparation, use cases, training for staff, and election security from an AI perspective.

    The AI and Cyber Summit is designed to be discussion-based and engage the audience as much as possible. It will be presented in-person as well as virtually.

    The 2024 Cyber and AI Summit for Cities and Counties will take place 9:30 AM to 5PM (ET) Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the IBM Innovation Studio, 600 14th Street, NW, Second Floor, Washington, DC 20005.

    Topic: AI's affect on Zero Trust Framework

    BIO:   Jeff Crume is an IBM Distinguished Engineer and Master Inventor with more than 40 years’ experience in the IT industry. He has a PhD in Cybersecurity and also serves as an Adjunct Professor at NC State University. Jeff’s YouTube videos have been viewed more than 3 million times and he is the author of a book entitled "Inside Internet Security: What Hackers Don't Want You To Know” as well as a contributing author to the "Information Security Management Handbook.” He is a member of the inaugural class of the NC State University Computer Science Alumni Hall of Fame and serves on the editorial board for the “Information and Computer Security” research journal. Jeff lived in Beijing on assignment in 2006 and has worked with clients in 50 countries

    ISC2 RVA Chapter 3rd Annual Family Cookout

    This is a special time of the year that we get together and hang out for the day with chapter members and our families. We will be providing the BBQ and all the sides for this event. 

    This is a family event so, we will have a bunch of activities those of all ages. 

    Blown up bound house for the little ones to play in.

    We will have a shooting range step up with a range instructor teaching how to shoot skeet. We will have shotguns and ammo avaialble for everyone to particate but you're welcome to bring your own.  We recommend bring your safety glasses and ear plugs.

    Since this event is open to members and their families, please RSVP (including guests) so we can plan for the catering order.

    Volunteers are needed for setup. Please email us at info@isc2rva.org if you want to help out.

    You're welcome to bring a lawn chair and some games to play so, we can make it a party!
